MAKING CONNECTION BETWEEN YOUR ESE AND THE MASTERPLANS FOR ICT
IN EDUCATION

In HGP, students attend mandatory computer lessons for 2-3 times during each term. They are taught basic microsoft word and powerpoint skills. Students are also trained to access school's e learning portal.

In HGP, teachers are encouraged to employ ICT tools in teaching of core and non core subjects. For e.g. Blogger is used as a tool for writing English compositions, Science teachers utilise MindMeister to create topical mindmaps for students.

MASTERPLANS FOR ICT IN EDUCATION
In your opinion, why do you think it is important for MOE to develop the three Masterplans for ICT in education?

students nowadays are getting increasingly technologically savvy. It is important to for MOE incorporate ICT in pedagogies in order to engage students in learning, and to keep up with the vast changes in technology.

Has any of the Masterplans impacted you as a student? Share your experience of how ICT had been used in the classes you attended as a student (if applicable).

I remembered attending compulsory IT lessons at least once a week when i was still a student. I was taught computer skills such as microsoft word, and Flash.

Based on your enhanced school experience, how do you think the current Masterplan 3 may affect your role(s) as a beginning teacher ?

I need to keep myself updated with the latest trends in technology so that i can incorporate ICT tools into my lessons.

Enhanced School Experience: Classroom Observations of ICT Use

(I) Specific Observations

School Name: HOUGANG PRIMARY SCHOOL

Class: 2 BRILLIANCE

Profile of the class:

Middle to low ability, class size of 30. Some students are in Learning support for English and Mathematics program.

(For e.g., the students’ academic abilities, stream and other characteristics)

Subject: English Language

What ICT tools are used in the lesson?

music player pre-installed in the classroom desktop, youtube video clips and Microsoft powerpoint.

Describe how ICT is used for teaching and learning in the lesson.

For tuning in activity, the teacher played a song and encouraged the students to sing along with her using the pre-installed music player.

For teaching of Conjuctions, the teacher played numerous youtube video clips that featured songs about conjunctions. The teacher then discussed with students about the clips.

To wrap up the lesson, the teacher reiterated the appropriate use of conjunctions using powerpoint slides that she had created.

General Observation:

How do teachers in the school feel about the use of ICT for teaching and learning? (For this question, you may want to speak to the HOD/ICT and other teachers you know in the school.)

Most teachers felt that ICT is important in teaching and learning as it allowed them to create more interesting and attractive lesson plans for students. With ICT being incorporated into lessons, students are more engaged in learning and are given many opportunities to participate in hands on activities such as blogging.
